“Altersgenossenvereine” in Schw. Gmünd:

This is a tradition which only exists in Schwäbisch Gmünd. At an age of about 30 all people who were born in the same year in and around Schwäbisch Gmünd start meeting regularly. Various functions and activities are held each year. The culmination of all this is the “40er-Fest” (50er/60er/70er-Fest etc.), when all members march through town (men march in tail coats!) and are cheered at by the people in Schwäbisch Gmünd. This “coming of age” is celebrated duly, because a Swabian becomes wise at the age of 40! Unfortunately not all AGVs (“Altersgenossenvereine”) have a homepage, here are two:
